The fast bowler Poised for a Major Role in the Ashes

Australian cricket captain

Pat Cummins has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian chair of selectors Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming England-Australia contest.

There were concerns that the veteran bowler might sit out due to a stress fracture in his back that had not yet healed.

Previous updates from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on 21 November in Western Australia.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the prospects of being involved.

"It's clear that the clock is ticking and there are permutations involved, not only the physical problem, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"We're encouraged. [We are] really confident that he's going to play a significant role. Ideally from the opening match. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."

Injury History

He was sidelined Australia's limited-overs series against New Zealand and India in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a lower back issue.

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with setbacks in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of several home seasons in four years.

He emphasized he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to ensure his availability for the contest.

Bailey noted that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "pressing" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Alternative Arrangements

If he's unavailable, veteran batsman Smith will take over the captaincy.

All-rounder Cameron Green was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against India as a precautionary measure because of soreness in his side.

Bailey described it as a "slight concern and stated that he'll feature in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to resume bowling."

"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the first Test as an all-rounder," he elaborated.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games anyway. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for a short period, we opted to take a cautious route."
